ViaQuatro is a concessionaire belonging to the CCR Group which will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Yellow Line 4 of the São Paulo Subway, which is the first Public-Private Partnership contract signed in the Nation. Line 4 should carry around one million passengers per day, when it becomes fully operational, in 2013.
During the 30-year contract, ViaQuatro should spend over R$ 5 billion for equipment and operating costs. The first investments were made in 2007, purchasing equipment and systems, including trains.
The Line 4 trains will have the most modern subway equipment, offering passengers greater comfort, with air conditioning, accordion sections between cars, allowing better accommodation, low noise levels and background music. The line will be the first in Latin America to have glass dividers separating the platform from the tracks and the first in Brazil to make cell phone use and Wi-Fi connection possible.
The cars will be equipped with driverless technology, meaning the trains will operate without a conductor, via a computerized system. The automatic operation is safer: the speed is always kept within the limits allowed and are regulated according to need, greatly facilitating train operations.
Line 4 represents the expansion of São Paulo’s subway system toward the south of the city, running along the important Consolação-Rebouças-Francisco Morato corridor. It will be interconnected with the other subway lines, as well as the CPTM commuter train network, thus improving the quality of the metropolitan area’s public transportation system.
